In a world designed to fracture our attention, the act of sitting down with a book is no longer just a hobby—it’s a revolutionary act of self-sovereignty. Today, as I reflect on the 6 of Cups, I am struck by the deep connection between our past, our healing, and the stories we choose to inhabit. This card is often associated with nostalgia and childhood, but it also speaks to our ancestral roots and the gifts passed down through generations.
One of the most precious—and hard-won—gifts our ancestors fought for was the literal freedom to read. For centuries, literacy was a weapon used against us, gatekept by those who believed that if something was hidden in a book, it was "safe" from Black people. This blatant, disrespectful sentiment wasn't just a hurdle; it was a systemic wall designed to keep us from knowing our own power and the tools for our own healing.

Reading as a Dying Art and a Radical Act
Today, we face a different kind of barrier. We are living through the era of the "dying art" of deep reading. Our attention spans are being systematically dismantled by a culture of constant scrolling and fractured focus. When we lose the ability to immerse ourselves in a text, we lose a vital tool for self-growth and reflection.
Reclaiming this art is a form of ancestral veneration. Every time you open a book, you are honouring the struggle of those who came before you—those who risked everything for the right to decode a page. You are proving that no knowledge is "safe" from you and that your mind is a sanctuary that belongs solely to you.
.

In my world, "reading" isn't confined to the pages of a novel. It’s a holistic skill that extends into every dimension of our wellness. As a deck-maker and wellness guide, I view reading as a three-fold practice:
Reading the Written Word: Rebuilding the cognitive stamina to engage with complex ideas and deep narratives.
Reading the Divine: Using tools like tarot and runes to read the energy of your own life, demystifying daily divination into a grounded, practical ritual for self-reflection.
Reading the Room: Developing the intuitive clarity to read people and environments, allowing you to hold clean boundaries and live from your own overflow rather than reacting to others' energy.
This is the essence of The Shadow Edit. It’s about looking beneath the surface—whether in a book, a card pull, or a social interaction—to find the "meaning layer" that others might miss. It’s about identifying the "programmed obstacles" we’ve been taught to accept and choosing to edit our own narrative.

Healing for all is free if we know how, but it requires us to remove the "niggling obstacles" we’ve been programmed with. To support you in this reclamation, I’ve created the Let's Read More Journal & Tracker. This isn't just a spreadsheet; it’s a personal growth sanctuary designed to help you build the consistency needed to become your best version.
By tracking your habits and your intuitive hits, you move from passive consumption to active, sovereign creation. You are not just "reading"; you are building a structured, private workspace for your soul to thrive. Reclaim your ancestral right to focus, to learn, and to heal.
